What is Momentum?

What is Momentum?

A reader recently emailed me asking for a definition of momentum, to help her better understand what momentum means, in reference to thoughts and the Law of Attraction.

In physics we are taught that momentum is the speed that an object has.

The best way of imagining momentum, for me is thinking back to the cartoons we saw as kids. A ball of snow at the top of the mountain when pushed down, seemed to get bigger as it rolled down the mountain.  As the snow ball grew in size, it also sped up. In other words its momentum increased, as it rolled down the mountain. The momentum of the snow ball at the top of the hill was less than its momentum at the bottom of the hill, where it had more speed and weight (size).

With regards to the Law of Attraction, momentum also exists. Our thoughts grow and speed up as we repeatedly think them over and over again. Therefore the momentum of a thought you think about for 5 seconds is less than the momentum of a thought you gave 5 minutes to. And because thoughts have attractive power (due to the law of attraction), the more you continue with a thought, the more its momentum increases. That is why you will find it harder to change old beliefs, because the momentum of your thoughts has become so strong over time.

To put this into perspective, consider this:

According to Abraham, power of thoughts increases very rapidly once you reach the 16 second threshold. As soon as 17 seconds is reached, you begin attracting to yourself the essence of what you were thinking. For example: if you were thinking “I’m going to be late, i’ll get stuck in traffic and miss my appointment” for 16 seconds non stop, you will begin at the 17 second mark, to attract events/scenarios that are in harmony with your worry. So perhaps you may get interrupted by a phone call, you may leave home without your keys, or some other similar event will occur.

Of course, the thought must be continuous and uninterrupted for 16 seconds before the attracting begins. And you must not contradict your thought. You could be thinking “I love this outfit, feels good to wear and the colour really suits” for 15 seconds and if you then think “But i’m still fat, need to lose another 5 kilos”, then you have contradicted your positive affirmative thoughts. So your positive thoughts don’t have the same attractive power.

If you can read the 68 second mark without contradicting yourself, your thought has become thought-form and is now drawing to you, more and more similar elements (thoughts, emotions, people, interactions, experiences).

Try this at home:

Pick a good feeling thought and set a timer, and see how long you can go thinking it before you get distracted. I am always amazed to see how hard it can be to keep a thought for 68 seconds, sometimes it feels like hours are going by. This exercise is excellent for making you aware of how easily we contradict our positive thoughts. And it also makes you alert to how quickly a simple thought can build up to a mountain of thoughts! And that is momentum!

I would love to hear about your experiences with this! Can you hold a positive thought for 68 seconds and not get side tracked or distracted?

Farnaz, I believe you are on to something. Thank you. I wonder how this could be scaled so more people would adopt this kind of positive and hopeful thinking in a collaborative supportive way…
